THE DOWNLOAD JOURNAL
Why a public video link can fail to download
Diagnose platform blocks, restricted posts, expired links and unsupported formats.
Start with the exact post URL
Copy the link from the post itself. Profile pages, search results and audio-library pages do not necessarily identify a downloadable video. Paste only the URL, without surrounding punctuation from a chat message. If a share link fails, open it in your browser and copy the final post address.
Your browser and the downloader have different access
A logged-in browser may display media that a server cannot access anonymously. LinkToKeep does not reuse your platform account session. If a post needs authentication, repeating the request will not grant access. A public page can also be blocked by the source platform’s request controls.
Read the error before retrying
- Restricted or session required: use a publicly accessible post or your own original file.
- Platform blocked the request: wait before trying again. Repeated submissions are unlikely to resolve a server-side block.
- Unsupported link: check that you copied a specific post or video URL.
- Size or duration limit: use a smaller source. This release caps output at 1 GB and video duration at one hour.
Distinguish extraction from saving
A preview means the link was inspected successfully, but downloading can still fail if the media URL expires or a later request is refused. A completed job means the file reached temporary storage. If the Save file link expires after one hour, create a new job from the original URL.
